Hugh De Pree graduated from Hope College in 1938. That same year he began working for Herman Miller, Inc. and was made president of this family corporation in 1962. De Pree was elected to the Hope College Board of Trustees in 1963, becoming chairman in 1966. After serving as chair for over 12 years, De Pree retired from the board in 1978.
